The Jamaica Observer is a news organisation and publication and is one of the major daily newspapers operating in Jamaica today, alongside its competitor the Jamaica Gleaner. The Observer was conceived by businessmen Gordon â€Å"Butch† Stewart and Delroy Lindsay and was developed with the aid of Trinidadian businessman and Trinidad Express owner Ken Gordon. The paper originally launched in March, 1993 as a weekly publication, with its issues being printed overseas in Miami, Florida and then delivered back to Jamaica to be sold. The Observer eventually moved to a daily format in December, 1994, and moved from its offices located at Fagan Avenue, St Andrew to a new compound on Beechwood Avenue in 2004. The paper’s founding editor, Desmond Allen, remains with the paper to this day as one of its three executive editors (according to the newspaper’s editorial information).
